Potters Guild Branding

This branding project was for Jacksonville State University’s Potters Guild. In total, I created the branding, packaging design, and stationary/business card set. The Potters Guild wanted a recognizable image that referenced ceramics in some way. They also needed an open and inviting look. They are a small, local guild that is community-based.

Because of their localized nature, I wanted to keep the image of the Potters Guild close to home. I drew inspiration from a local Native American legend about a feisty rabbit who goes on a perilous journey. The Creek Indians, which are native to the Jacksonville area, tell a story about a lighthearted trickster rabbit who steals fire and brings it to mankind. To get it safely back, he lights his head aflame to swim the blaze safely across a river and back to the people waiting on the other side. The story brings together several elements necessary for ceramics. The rabbit braves the flame, swims the water, and races across the earth to accomplish his mission. Ceramics, too, takes a bit of bravery. Just like the rabbit, potters must brave the elements to achieve their goal.
